• All fonts MUST be embedded (True Type fonts are unacceptable.)
• The color space must be CMYK or Grayscale. No RGB, LAB or embedded color profiles.
• All PMS colors MUST be converted to CMYK. No files with PMS colors will be accepted.
• Resolution: 200dpi / Cover spots: 300dpi
Creating a PDF
Current versions of InDesign, QuarkXPress, Illustrator, and Photoshop have options for outputting high-resolution, print-ready PDFs. Consult your graphics application documentation for details. You may also use Acrobat Distiller to create PDFs. If you are at all unsure about whether or not your PDF is print-quality, please send us your source files along with the PDF.
Other Accepted Formats
• Flattened TIFF, JPEG or EPS files at 300dpi resolution. Fonts used in EPS files must be included as well if they have not been converted to outlines. Files must be compatible with the MACINTOSH PLATFORM or they will be returned. Any files sent from a PC platform must be in the following formats: .ai (Adobe Illustrator), .tif (Tiff), .eps, .jpg or .pdf.
• Ads saved in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or Illustrator (CS3 versions or below), Quark XPress 6.1 or below, Macromedia Freehand MX or below with all supporting links, images and fonts.
• Camera ready art must be on white slick paper, not NEWSPRINT. Photos must be original, no second generation copies. Any screens or halftone camera ready art must be provided on CD or DVD.
DIGITAL Art requirements
• All digital ads must be accompanied by a proof. Proofs must be printed at 100% and must match the supplied file. If there are discrepancies between the supplied digital ad file and supplied proof, AD Ideas LLC will print what is on the digital ad file. Digital ads supplied without a physical color guidance proof will be accepted at the advertiser’s risk and we will not be responsible for color or content discrepancies.
• We prefer to have all fonts converted to outlines (or paths). If fonts are not converted, ALL FONT FILES (suitcases and postscript font files) must be submitted with the ad file in Mac and/or compatible format. All PC fonts must be supplied or converted to graphics.
• Any artwork/graphics that can be retrieved from website(s) in which the advertiser has permission, please provide clear instructions for proper download including the URL address, any user name(s) and password(s). We DO NOT accept PHOTOGRAPHS, ARTWORK/CLIPART files from the following programs/formats: Adobe Pagemaker, Corel Draw, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Excel and (Microsoft) Windows Metafile.
• Documents created in Microsoft Word can be provided for text content purposes only. Ads created in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, PowerPoint or any other word processing program WILL NOT be accepted. Other applications not mentioned above may not be usable.
• Because of the optimization of images produced for web formatting results in compressed and lower resolution image types, we DO NOT accept GIF images and similar file types submitted for print ad creation.
• Artwork not accompanying copysheets, contracts and similar paperwork (for example, any art/graphics sent via e-mail) MUST BE LABELED PROPERLY. Folders and files should include the name of the company and the heading(s) ad will be placed. Be sure to include file extensions in the file name (for example, .tif or .eps). Completed ad art/graphics must be supplied at the correct size (UDAC) for the directory or other publication that it will appear.
• AD Ideas CANNOT alter any customer supplied art, therefore, accuracy, in the instructions herein, is extremely important! AD Ideas does not have the right to alter any artwork submitted to AD Ideas due to copyright infringement, so please be sure to include all fonts, images and appropriate documents accordingly.
• AD Ideas LLC will convert PMS/spot colors, RGB and LAB color spaces to CMYK and remove color profiles in ad files, and is not responsible for any resulting color shifts. To avoid this, please convert all PMS/spot colors, RGB and LAB color spaces to CMYK before you send us your ad, and do not embed color profiles in image files.
• Blacks In Four-Color Ads - Blacks must contain 100% black value with no other values of Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow contributing to the color value. Do not use rich black of any kind.
• We want your ad to print correctly. If your ad is late, has technical problems, needs last-minute changes, or is otherwise “stressed,” the chances of its running incorrectly increase significantly. Therefore please make every effort to get your materials in on time and to our specifications.
be aware of Common Problems
Low-resolution images, missing screen and/or printer fonts, incorrect dimensions, images not converted to CMYK, text outside the safety area, non-bleed ads that bleed (and vice versa), excessive density of tone, ads created in non-standard applications, unacceptable proofs, incorrect use of rich black, spot colors, and embedded color profiles. AD IDEAS WILL QUERY ANY AND ALL PAPERWORK FOR ADS IN WHICH ANY ART IS NOT SUPPLIED PROPERLY.
